Some good news at last.
A girl born in India can expect to live for 65 years, whereas a boy lives for 63- not much of a difference, but it is good. Pakistan and Nepal are about where we are, but surprisingly, in Sri Lanka their average lifespan is 75 (what is it with Sri Lanka?- Their indicators are surprisingly impressive in many areas). Though, Japan leads us all- the women can live up to 86.
There's more good news about India- the infant mortality has fallen a bit: in 1990, 84 girls per thousand died, and ten years later, it is 68 per thousand. In case of boys, 82 per thousand in 1990 got lowered to 66 per thousand in 2000.
And mortality of under-five children is 67 per thousand now.
