India- more good news

All India Today:

"The monthly income of an average Indian for the first time in the country’s history has crossed Rs 3,000, thanks to economic reforms and a high growth rate of above 9% achieved for three years since 2005-06.
The per capita income, a measure of average income of a citizen, went up 12.2% to Rs 37,490 per annum during 2008-09, said the advance estimate for national income released by the Central Statistical Organisation (CSO) on Friday."
Great, right?

More Good News about Indian Economy

India is ranked 13th among 57 countries as better equipped to recover from the crisis and come out more competitive.

These rankings were based on the Stress Test.

Denmark is ranked 1, and is followed by Singapore, Qatar, Norway and Hong Kong.

To my amazement, India is ahead of China (18), Japan(26) and US (28).

This means that they think India is ready and raring to go while the rest of the world struggles with global recession.

Indian Girls live longer than boys

Some good news at last.

A girl born in India can expect to live for 65 years, whereas a boy lives for 63- not much of a difference, but it is good. Pakistan and Nepal are about where we are, but surprisingly, in Sri Lanka their average lifespan is 75 (what is it with Sri Lanka?- Their indicators are surprisingly impressive in many areas). Though, Japan leads us all- the women can live up to 86.

There's more good news about India- the infant mortality has fallen a bit: in 1990, 84 girls per thousand died, and ten years later, it is 68 per thousand. In case of boys, 82 per thousand in 1990 got lowered to 66 per thousand in 2000.

And mortality of under-five children is 67 per thousand now.

This is culled by The Times of India from WHO's World Health Statistics 2009.

Poeple Without Conscience...

  • Madhukar Gupta, our home secretary, has reportedly said that at least 100 million people are involved in human trafficking in India.
  • And Ashwani Kumar, head of CBI has it that around 1.2 million children could be involved in prostitution.

This is not about rank, this is just numbers.

India on top of the world- Film Industry

Daily Guide Ghana :

India tops the world in making films and videos.

India is followed by Nigeria (I couldn't have guessed that) and US.

(The photo is that of Ini Edo. I got it from "Showbiz bits with Azuh Amatus".

An interview with Ini Edo is at nigeriamovies.net.

By the way, they call themselves Nollywood!)

Viral Economy

The Economic Times reports this:

India ranks first for viruses and worms, second for trojans and backdoors, third in malicious internet activity. As can be expected China is the leader.
